Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home was established in 2003 by Livingstone Nerwande, to provide a safe and nurturing environment for abused and orphaned children. It is situated in Nyanga District, eastern Zimbabwe. Rekai currently uses a converted school building with the capacity to care for up to 25 children aged four to eighteen. These facilities are very basic and are unsuitable for long term use.

Work is now in progress developing a purpose built children’s home. This resource will provide both residential and non-residential facilities for orphans and vulnerable children in Nyanga. The residential accommodation will comprise four small bungalows, providing for house parents and up to eight children. Kitchen gardens, chicken runs and maize plots will provide valuable training in sustainable food production. The children will also benefit from a sports pitch where they will have a safe place to play and interact with others from the community.

Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home seeks to bring the hope of Christ to the most vulnerable children in society. We work to provide emotional, material, physical and spiritual care that increases the self -worth of the children and develops their potential.

Rekai strives to establish strong relationships with community partners, churches, local businesses and national organisations; prioritising staff development and community integration.

“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress.” James 1:27 (NLT)
